3rd Annual CVJO Honors Jazz Festival

The Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra (CVJO) is thrilled to announce that we are accepting applications for the Third Annual CVJO Honors Jazz Festival! As part of this unique opportunity, we are excited to welcome guest Luis Bonilla, GRAMMY-award willing trombonist with the Mingus Big Band and the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra! Since we want to encourage all interested student musicians, we have made it part of our mission to ensure there are NO FEES for any of the students involved!

The Honors Jazz Festival is a one-day intensive jazz clinic and performance. Previous experience playing jazz is not required, but an interest in jazz is! The Honors Jazz Festival will meet on February 21, 2015 starting at 9 AM with master classes with members of the CVJO, a clinic with Mr. Bonilla on jazz improvisation, and culminating in a concert at the State Theater at 7:30 PM with Luis Bonilla! The Honors Festival ensembles will be conducted by two excellent local jazz educators, Jeff Walk from Regis High School and Barry Hitt from Chippewa High School

The Honors Jazz Festival is open to all student musicians in the Chippewa Valley in grades 8 through 12. All student musicians interested in applying can apply by downloading the application HERE. Please fill out the PDF form and e-mail it to cvjo@chippewajazz.org. We will contact your band director for the recommendation information on the back side.

The CVJO will be providing lunch and dinner for all of the participants as well as copies of all of the music. As such, there will be NO COST to your students to participate in the Honors Festival.

Applications are due by December 21st and will be evaluated based on level of interest, skill, and recommendations from directors. The size and number of the jazz ensembles formed will be based on the number of students accepted. Announcements will be sent out to all applicants no later than January 5th. If you have any questions, please contact us at cvjo@chippewajazz.org or by phone at 715-222-0194.
