PASSION IN EVERY NOTE!

Among the members of the CVJO are many of the most respected jazz musicians in the Chippewa Valley.

Eric Olson – Trombone

Eric is the bass trombone player for the CVJO. He is a graduate of Chippewa Falls High School and UW-Eau Claire. He started his teaching career in the Chicagoland area but had to come home and has been a music teacher in Chippewa Falls for the past 16 years. His start in jazz was during his sophomore year in high school when Mike Walk asked him to play bass in his combo.

Geoff Peterson - Percussion

Geoff has been our percussionist since 2010. As one of our founding members, Geoff worked with Bruce Herring to get the CVJO started back in 2009, and he continues to serve as our board president, grant writer, music librarian, and all-around trouble-shooter for the organization. He currently serves as the chair of the Department of Political Science at UW-Eau Claire when he is not indulging in his passion for jazz.

Geoff has been our percussionist since 2010. As one of our founding members, Geoff worked with Bruce Herring to get the CVJO started back in 2009, and he continues to serve as our board president, grant writer, music librarian, and all-around trouble-shooter for the organization. Jason Collins – Saxophone

Jason Collins plays alto and baritone saxophone. He leads the Jason Collins Septet and is a founding member of the Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra. He also performs with The Sue Orfield Horns and Weapons of Brass Destruction. He has studied with Dennis Plies, Don Lanphere, Warren Rand, and Renato Caranto. He teaches in the Menomonie School District and lives with his family in the city of Menomonie, but still has horses in his backyard.

Jeff Walk - Trumpet

Jeff is a native of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and is the Director of Bands for the School District of Mondovi. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music in New York, Jeff has performed with several well-known artists including Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, The New York Voices, and The Supremes. Jeff has been the lead trumpet player and section leader for the CVJO since our inception and was the very first section leader we recruited!

Jeff is a native of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and is the Director of Bands for the School District of Mondovi. Sue Orfield – Tenor Sax

As a highly accomplished tenor sax player, Sue has been the anchor of the sax section since the CVJO’s inception. Sue is an award-winning tenor saxophonist, composer, and educator who tours internationally and has recorded on hundreds of albums. She makes her home in the Chippewa Valley of Wisconsin, where in addition to teaching privately and writing/arranging music, she freelances, and fronts her own group, The Sue Orfield Band.

Rich Morgan - Trumpet

Rich has been a life-long resident of Eau Claire, a local business owner, and an active community member. He has performed on trumpet with many area music groups since the 1980s including UWEC Jazz Ensemble 1, Prime Time Big Band, Bruce Hering Big Band, the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra, as well as being a frequent performer in many area jazz combos, churches, and pit orchestras. Jazz music has been a life-long passion. Rich is honored and proud to be a founding member of the Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra!
